About Black Pine Architects

Black Pine Architects is an award-winning practice delivering sustainable, energy-efficient, and low-carbon buildings across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Founded in 2012, our team includes Passivhaus-certified architects who are committed to designing buildings that prioritise occupant health, comfort, and performance.

Our work is driven by a simple but powerful observation: New Zealand buildings are often poorly suited to the local climate. Despite our reputation for innovation, many homes and workplaces remain cold, damp, and inefficient – leading to serious impacts on wellbeing. In contrast, overseas experience in countries like Germany, the USA, and Australia has shown us how buildings can be designed to maintain comfortable indoor environments year-round, regardless of external conditions.

At Black Pine, we use the Passivhaus standard to ensure every project – regardless of style, scale, or location – achieves optimal thermal comfort, air quality, and energy performance. Whether you’re building a home, a public facility, or a commercial space, our team is here to help you create a space that’s not only beautiful, but also resilient, healthy, and future-ready.

We look forward to working with you on your next project!

Regards
